Alberto Alessi has written several books, including La Cintura di Orione (Longanesi, Milano 1986), Not the production side of the Production (Alessi Spa, Crusinallo 1988), and The Dream Factory (Electa, Milano 1998). During his career, he has contributed writing articles to many magazines and international publications and has been a visiting professor at several universities of design.<\/p>

Alberto Alessi is a member of the Academic Council of the U.I.A.H., Helsinki and is part of the honorary committee of the Design Museum in London. He is a senior member of the Royal College of Art, London; honorary professor at the College of Fine Arts, Saarbr\u00fccken; Doctor Honoris Causa of the U.I.A.H. Helsinki; Doctor of Fine Arts at the University of Miami in Oxford, Ohio; and he has an honorary doctorate from the University of Central England, Birmingham.<\/p>

In 1998 he received the Design Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Brooklyn Museum of Art.<\/p>

His company was founded by the turner Giovanni Alessi in 1921 in the city of Omegna, Italy. His first creations were household items, such as coffee pots and cutlery, made in various metallic alloys, always interested in bringing \u201cart and industry.\u201d It was in 1935, with the addition of his son Carlo, when the company launched the search for unique and carefully manufactured products. Carlo Alessi had studied industrial design at Novara. He was the creator of the most signing products, including the \u201ctea set and coffee Bombe\u201d one of the symbols of the first era of Italian design. In 1950, under the direction of Carlo and his brother Ettore, the company decides to order the product design to professionals of this discipline who did not belong to the plant, thus defining a new profile for the firm.<\/p>

Throughout Alessi\u2019s history, the most important artists in the world of design have left their names printed in their products (more than 200); from Alessandro Mendini (design consultant firm since 1979) with its corkscrew \u201cAnna G.\u201d going through Phillipe Starck with his juicer \u201cJuicy Salif\u201d to Ettore Sottsass and his oil, plates and Parmesan cheese containers. Richard Sapper<\/a>, Richard Sapper, Achille Castiglioni, Aldo Rossi, Michael Graves, Stefano Giovannoni, Guido Venturini, Jasper Morrison and Ron Arad are highlighted.<\/p>

Alberto Alessi founded in 1990 the \u201cAlessi Studies Center\u201d, an experimental laboratory that promotes the formation of its own professional teams. At present, it has 3 product lines: \u2022 \u201cOfficina Alessi\u201d most exclusive objects \u2022 \u201cAlessi\u201d industrial products in series \u2022 \u201cA di Alessi\u201d characterized by its high quality design in a reasonable price.<\/p>
